Articles usually provide the most current, scholarly research on a topic, and using them effectively will help you create a more successful research project.

To find articles by topic, use a periodical database. Periodical databases can be either general, like ProQuest Direct, or subject specific, like Philosopher's Index.

Please note: If off campus, you will be promted for your St. John's Central user name and password.

Connect to a Database

  • ProQuest Direct
    ProQuest Direct is a very good all-purpose database, and includes articles on most topics. Includes scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, trade publications, and dissertations.
  • Databases A-Z
    Click here if you know the name of the database you want.
  • Resources by Subject
    Provides resources by academic discipline, including periodical databases. Click here to find appropriate periodical databases in your discipline.
